our story

We are all about the food. And we grow the cows ourselves.


Since 2012, Green Cow has been showcasing the very best that our farm can produce. As you try to find us, you will drive past our lovingly nurtured cows, sheep and pigs. Our farmer Tim Roberts lives with his family next door to Green Cow. In winter, we feature estate pheasant, partridge and duck. Throughout the seasons, the chefs forage for wild garlic, hedgerow berries, damsons, plums, apples, pears, puff balls, elderflower and more...


The monthly set tasting menu reflects what is ready and at its best from the farm and our other local suppliers.


What we don't grow on the farm, we source from local suppliers.

our people

It's a family affair. Joe and Keeley Evans own it. Mum cuts and arranges fresh, garden flowers for the tables; Megan helps host; and Dad produces the lovely oil paintings that hang on the wall.


Head Chef Mickey Provis has been with us since the very beginning. He read psychology at university, and despite no formal training, has rapidly developed his culinary talents. Celebrated Michelin starred chef Patrick McDonald lives up the road and helps hone our skills and plan our menus. Chef James Brown started with us as an apprentice in 2016 and we haven't let him out of the kitchen since.


Ellie Symonds is Whitbourne born and bred. She helps keep the business running smoothly and is a whizz at mixing our house cocktails. Ellie's mum Lyn is a rockstar in the sink and keeps on top of the washing up every night.


Abi, Bella, Carolyn, Emma, Henry, Jamie and Tom make up the rest of our brilliant and committed team. Each bring their own fabulous version of warmth and hospitality to our posh pigsty.

Approaching from the east (Worcester and Birmingham)

  • Ignore your SatNav and stay on the A44 past the right hand turning into Whitbourne village
  • After 500 yards, take the next right signposted “Green Cow Kitchens”


Approaching from the west (Bromyard and Hereford):

  • Turn left off the A44 in Bromyard onto the B4203
  • Continue along B4203 for 2 miles
  • Take right handed turning signposted “Lower Norton Gated Road”
  • Continue for 1½ miles

the art

We are proud to feature work from three local artists for you to enjoy during dinner. Most of the art is available to buy - please ask anyone in the team for details.


Bill Evans

Bill works mainly in oils.  His paintings start from something seen, but Bill always hopes his work will take on a life of its own.  He seeks to establish a strong two dimensional design while at the same time depicting three dimensional space.   The resulting images are powerful and personal, communicating excitement in the colour and texture of paint and the painting process, but also a sense of place.

Shelly Perkins

Shelly is a freelance illustrator specialising in wildlife and landscape scenes mainly inspired by the countryside around her home in the rural Midlands.  She works both commercially and on self initiated projects that she sells as prints and cards. Her unique way of combining traditional painting and drawing techniques with digital enhancement results in finished works which she sells as limited edition prints making them highly unusual and collectable pieces of art. Her commercial clients include BBC Wildlife Magazine, The National Trust and the RSPB.


Megan Evans

Megan combines traditional Collagraph Printmaking with hand drawn detail to reinvent Litter collected from the natural environment.  The audience is invited to read the 'ingredients' of each piece, revealing where and when the Litter was found.  She now works predominantly in Herefordshire, collecting most of her Litter from our roadsides, thrown by the passengers of passing cars.  She creates a variety of designs for Print and Clothing, and also delivers inclusive creative workshops for Schools, Colleges, Universities and UK festivals to raise the profile of Litter in our natural landscape.
